and economical. Here are a few suggestions. There will be more to come.

- Choose particular people from around the world to focus on - their Christmas
traditions; news events from that part of the world.
- Explore history of our traditions and culture.
- Write form letters instead of personal letters because of time demands.
- Put up your Christmas tree on the 1st day of Advent.
- Have an Advent Calendar.
- Have Advent wreath, child lights candles.
- First Sunday of Advent - have an advent party.
- Have quiet time around the tree with all lights out, except the tree lights.
- You don't need to be a "perfect" family.
- Encourage children to give gifts - learn not only to receive.
- Choose names instead of buying gifts for each family member; put a limit on amount spent.
- Limit gift giving only among children in family or have gift exchange only up to a certain age.
- When someone says that they don't want a gift, suggest a donation to their favourite charity.
- Give gifts to a family in need in community through service agencies like House of Friendship.
- Take an angel from "Angel Tree" at one of the malls and buy a gift for a less fortunate child.
- Give clothes, shampoo, soap, etc. to homeless people (e.g. House of Friendship, R.O.O.F. - Reaching Our Outdoor Friends.) - list is for Kitchener - Waterloo Area, check for projects in your area.
- Share meal preparation (for example plan a community potluck)
