Pretzel Recipe




  1. Put water in large warm bowl.
  2. Sprinkle in yeast. Stir.
  3. Add sugar, salt, oil, beaten egg, and 3 cups flour.
  4. Beat until smooth.
  5. Add enough additional flour to make stiff dough.
  6. Cover bowl tightly with aluminum foil and refrigerate for 2-24 hours.
  7. Turn dough onto lightly floured board.
  8. Divide in half.
  9. Cut each half into 16 equal pieces.
  10. Roll each piece into 20-inch pencil shapes.
  11. Shape into pretzels.
  12. Place on lightly greased baking sheets.
  13. Blend 1 egg yolk and 2 T. water and brush pretzels with it.
  14. Sprinkle with course salt.
  15. Bake at 400 degrees F for about 20 - 25 minutes.
  16. Remove from baking sheets and cool on wire racks.
