Pickled Herring




  1. Wash herrings, and soak in cold water overnight changing water three or four times.
  2. Set milt aside.
  3. Wash thoroughly again and cut into serving pieces.
  4. Pack in sterile jars alternating with sliced onions, spices and milt.
  5. Milt may be crushed and added to vinegar if desired.
  6. Pour vinegar over herrings and seal.
  7. Sore in refrigerator overnight before serving. (Herring could be filleted if desired).
