For Christmas, James wanted a big shiny red wagon, the one he saw in the window of Mr. Burkhardt's store. He wanted it very, very much. James liked this story, but he was especially excited
about his present to be opened on Christmas day.

He imagined himself coasting down a big hill, filling it with stuff and pulling it up and down the sidewalk.
He knew his parents did not spend a lot of money on gifts, but surely just this once they could spend a little more and buy him his wagon.
