Then Dud said, "Hey kid. Do you want to play checkers?"
"OK", said James.
"Well..., what are you waiting for? said grumpy old Uncle Dud. Go on, get the checker board and checkers and we'll play a game or two.
So the whole afternoon James and Uncle Dud played checkers while Dud told stories about when he was a little boy. He made up exciting stories of adventure and mystery. They even laughed and told jokes. By the end of the day James and Uncle Dud were bes
t friends. Uncle Dud smiled and the whole family was amazed.
"Time to go", said mother.
"Will you visit me?", asked Uncle Dud?
"Sure", said James, "I really like you. I will come to see you Monday afternoon.", said James.
"Good", said Uncle Dud. "Monday it is. You know", he said. "I learned something today."
"What", asked James.
"I learned that there are better gifts to have then toys, ties and candies. The best gift of all is friendship and love." , smiled Uncle Dud.
"Yah", said James. "This has been my best Christmas ever. The Baby Jesus when he grew up said that Love was the most important thing of all. I love you Uncle Dud." "I love you too James. Good bye. See you Monday.", beamed Uncle Dud.
